Experience Italy and/or Vermont -- spend five days cooking and living on an olive oil estate in Sicily or Tuscany, or in a luxurious barn in Vermont, making great Italian food. Each home is surrounded by gardens and meadows; all have kitchens designed for multiple cooks. Extensive flower and vegetable gardens feed the eye as well as the palate, while meadow and mountain views complete the picture. Five bedrooms in each location offer accommodations for up to 7-10 guests.
In Vermont, we'll gather vegetables from local organic farmers, shop at the regional farmer's market, make bread from wild yeasts, make pizza in the wood-fired oven, and buy meat and fish from farmers and the local Food Coop. We'll visit artisan cheese-makers, bee-keepers, chocolate makers, and an apple winery. In season, we'll gather mushrooms or wild greens. http://www.culinaryvermont.com
In Sicily and Tuscany, we'll cook local food based on regional culinary traditions. We'll cook extraordinary dishes together, see ancient sites, experience unique landscapes, visit open air markets and attend local Sagras (food festivals). We'll relax under the pergola, drink coffee on the town piazza, and explore towns and villages. Our program offers guests an unforgettable experience of back-stage life, the way that locals really live. http://www.italyonaplate.com
The programs are designed to offer authentic experiences of place and flavor. We'll make lots of wonderful food together, but we'll still have time to visit local craftsmen and shops, and explore some of the places that make each region famous.
